The Saunders Castle

The Saunders Castle at Park Plaza is a renowned Boston venue for Special Events, Exhibitions, Conferences, and more. With 15,000 square feet of adaptable event space, the venue features ample room, soaring ceilings, and an open layout. The elegant ambiance, enhanced by brick and wrought iron details, serves both as a stunning backdrop and a blank canvas for custom build-outs, design, and branding.

The Castle has hosted numerous prestigious events of local, national, and international significance, including “Downton Abbey: The Exhibition,” which attracted over 80,000 visitors during its celebrated run. Additionally, it featured Lighthouse ArtSpace Boston, a unique innovative art venue showcasing works by renowned artists such as Frida Kahlo, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and many others. Most recently, the Castle hosted the “Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away” exhibition and is currently featuring the iconic “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.”

The property features two distinct event venues:

  • The Tower: Spanning four floors, the Tower accommodates parties of 30 to 500 guests.
  • The Saunders Castle: A spacious, wide-open 15,000 sq.ft. venue for events, exhibitions, conferences, performances, and much more.

The Tower

The Tower is one of the most photographed buildings in Boston, boasting thick granite walls, a moat, and a drawbridge. Inside it is full of luxurious touches, such as carved woodwork, intricate fireplaces, wrought iron banisters, and beautiful works of art.

With a variety of lovely private rooms ranging in size from spacious to intimate, the Tower is available for groups of 30 to 500 guests.

Historic Beauty in the Heart of the City

A designated National Historic Landmark, the Castle was originally an Armory for the First Corp. of Cadets of Massachusetts. Designed by famed architect William Gibbons Preston and completed in 1897, the impressive structure is built of masonry granite and steel. Its distinctive features include a six-story hexagonal tower, numerous turrets, a drawbridge, a moat, and beautiful touches including a carved, winged dragon.

The Castle is ideally situated in Boston’s Back Bay, uniting beauty and history with city convenience. The venue offers amazing Boston event space in an incredible location, with quick access to hotels, shopping, convention centers, public transit, and more than 6,000 parking spaces.

Event Management

Professional Event Manager and Porter services are required for all events and are provided by the Licensor. Terms are available upon request.

Outside security is required for all events and is provided by the Licensor. Terms are available upon request.

The Saunders Castle is ADA Accessible, with one ADA entrance & exit on the southwest side of the building. ADA accessible restrooms are available on the main floor.

The Saunders Castle is in walking distance from a number of fine hotels, including Boston Park Plaza, Revere Hotel, The Newbury Boston, Four Seasons Hotel and W Hotel.

The neighborhood offers more than 6,000 local parking spots. In addition, the venue is licensed for valet parking.

The venue features dimmable lighting overhead. Throughout the space, extensive rigging points allow for the hanging of custom lighting, truss, audio and décor.

Guest restrooms are located on the lower level of the venue, in addition to two ADA accessible restrooms on the main level.

Complimentary wireless internet service is available for guests to the Saunders Castle (capacity of approx. 500 users or devices).
